Introduction
Leisure and Culture Dundee has organised the Active Dundee Sports Awards to celebrate the outstanding achievements of sports clubs, schools and individuals in Dundee over the last year.
Tonight’s awards are centred around the theme of “Changing Lives through Sport”, showcasing the incredible influence that sport can have on individuals from all walks of life and at every level, from grassroots participation to elite athletes. It is truly inspiring to see how sports clubs and schools are leveraging the power of sport to tackle broader societal challenges, such as improving academic performance, addressing the cost-of-living crisis, and reducing anti-social behaviour. The nominations you will hear about tonight reflect these efforts and highlight sport's significant role in enhancing our local communities.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of Dundee's sports volunteers. Your dedication and selflessness enable countless individuals to participate in and excel in sport. We also want to congratulate the nominees and category winners and thank everyone who took the time to submit a nomination.

We are delighted to welcome back Bruce Aitchison as our host for year number 3!
Mr Happiness is Egg Shaped is always full of energy and is excited to return for what he describes as ‘one of his most positive nights of his year!’
Bruce is back working in secondary schools to support young people with their meta skills to prepare them for a smooth transition into training, apprenticeships or employment when they leave school. Bruce spends A LOT of time on social media. His podcast, Happiness is... now has over 70k downloads and was named 3rd in the Rugby Category in the Sports Podcast Awards for 2025. (He’s a bit disappointed, he was 2nd in 2024!)
Bruce is well-known for his involvement in various charities, especially the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, raising funds for research into finding a cure for Motor Neurone Disease.
Bruce loves to talk and is DELIGHTED to be back in Dundee.

Ashley Muirhead
Ashley is a student at Dundee and Angus College. Building upon her own experiences from being deaf, Ashley has shown dedication into creating a safe and welcoming environment in which deaf students can fully participate and thrive in sports. She has shown outstanding dedication to inclusivity by creating a multi-sport group at Claypotts Castle Primary School. She has navigated her own challenges such as clear communication and used this to shape her own coaching style to cater for the needs of the deaf children she is working with.
Esra Sarac
Esra has been volunteering in the Harris cluster for nine years. In the past year she has been delivering a badminton club at Harris Academy, this has been available to every year group and at least 25 pupils attend weekly. In addition, she assisted a lunch time rugby club and gave additional coaching to a group of girls from the badminton club, during another lunchtime. Esra has committed to volunteering while she has been a student at Abertay University, where she is now doing her master's degree.
Jack Hutchison
Jack is a full-time student at Abertay University. He is a former youth player, turned coach for Dundee Madsons Basketball Club. Jack’s journey started by volunteering with the clubs under 16’s recreational team and progressing into becoming the assistant coach for the performance team which is currently sitting 3rd in Scotland. Jack also volunteers at the Regional Academy programme run by Basketball Scotland and after passing his level 1 coaching award he is now working towards his level 2 qualification.
James Morrison
James is a medical student at the University of Dundee. James has implemented and ran a training plan for Dundee University Boat Club, including goals for each athlete. James consistently dedicates several days a week to the club, organising extra sessions on top of the existing programme, ahead of competitions to ensure that crews are ready for competition. James contributions including developing weights programmes for athletes to further their training and helping the club to secure additional boats to increase accessibility to rowing, have played a significant role in the growth of the club and the club’s performance in competitions greatly improving.

Cameron Prophet
Cameron has been an outstanding volunteer supporting pupils at Kingspark School who have additional support needs and disabilities. Cameron assists the weekly dance club and supported the group to attend the city-wide dance festival and the Urban Moves dance show. Cameron also supports the Kingspark youth group and the Active Dundee ASN Movers group. Cameron was also recently successful with his application to be a Youth Ambassador for Active Dundee. On top of his multiple volunteering roles, Cameron is a young carer, supporting his mum and younger brother.
Eve Webster
Eve has been a committed volunteer with Dundee West Community Trust for over two years developing football opportunities across the local community. Over the last year Eve has successfully completed the first 3 qualifications on the SFA coaching pathway and has had a huge impact on girls' participation in football, delivering lunchtime football at local schools and supporting transition into the club. Eve’s ability to encourage, motivate & create a fun, safe place for girls to play, has supported over 25 new girls to join the club whilst she has also played a key role in recruiting new parents as volunteer coaches for the girl's teams.
Murron Allan
Murron gained her boccia and football qualifications at the 2024 Sports Leadership Academy and has used these to excel in multiple volunteer roles. She has led the ESA boccia classes at Ballumbie Primary School on a Friday afternoon, is head coach of the Braeview S1-2 girls football team and has most recently created her own ESA 1 lunchtime boccia class at Braeview, which is the first ASN extra-curricular club delivered by a senior pupil volunteer. In November, Murron also started volunteering with Fairfield Community Sports Hub, supporting the delivery of the P1 boy's section. Murron was also recently selected as a Youth Ambassador for Active Dundee.
Sarah White
Sarah is a valued volunteer with Monarchs Hockey Club and Active Schools. Sarah is a vital part of Monarchs, offering her expertise to help develop players of various ages and skill levels while also coaching hockey in two primary schools every week ensuring high quality delivery to school pupils. Her dual volunteering in both club and school environments highlights Sarah’s passion for hockey and her commitment to making it accessible to everyone. She also regularly goes above and beyond as in addition to coaching she mentors college and university students ensuring they learn the specifics of coaching hockey and giving them resources to help them succeed.

Andrew Cameron
Andrew, a teacher at Clepington Primary School, has gone over and above to create as many opportunities as possible for pupils at the school to participate in sport and physical activity. Andrew has played a crucial role in the creation of the Fawn Cup, while also giving up his weekends to take pupils to ice hockey and rugby matches as well as opening as many opportunities as possible for pupils to join in clubs and tournaments. His commitment has been crucial to the school achieving the gold school sport award three years in a row.
Jack Robertson
Jack is the pool technician at Baldragon Academy and has volunteered for over 200 hours in the cluster in the past year. Jack has been key to the development of swimming in the Baldragon cluster including leading a learn to swim programme for primary seven pupils, delivering holiday programmes, upskilling senior pupils, delivering ESA sessions and running a breakfast club. When not in the pool Jack also volunteers with the S2 football team.
Steph Kennedy
Steph currently runs the netball team at Eastern Primary School, a role she’s shown outstanding commitment too for the past 12 years. Steph runs the weekly after school netball club and when the league is running, she runs a lunchtime club as well as attending the matches after school. When the league isn’t running Steph organises friendly matches and every year organises the pupils v teachers netball game. Steph ensures opportunities for pupils by participating in the netball league and arranging friendlies with surrounding schools.
Stuart Macalpine
Stuart has been played a pivotal role in enhancing opportunities at Braeview Academy. Stuart leads several sports clubs within the school including badminton, netball and trampolining. Stuart is also the school's rugby lead and supports the school of rugby sessions every Tuesday afternoon and attends all the school's rugby matches. Stuart displays outstanding commitment to school sport, never missing a session and transporting pupils to venues.

Jennifer Knox
Jennifer is the leader of Dundee Tribe Cheerleaders, and always goes the extra mile ensuring athletes are happy, safe and learning new things. Jennifer commits two full nights a week and all-day Sunday to cheer and has recently secured her own premises to facilitate more training hours. Jennifer’s dedication hugely contributed to 7 of the club’s athletes being selected to compete for Scotland in the World Championships in Florida. Jennifer is always available offering guidance and unwavering support.
John Scrimgeour
John is Head Coach and Treasurer of Dundee Volleyball Club. John has been involved with Scottish Volleyball national teams for over 50 years, showing his dedication and passion for the sport. Despite the growing treasurer duties John has balanced his duties well and continues to prioritise the growth of the club. John continually strives to improve the club while managing both roles with enthusiasm and dedication.
Kerry Lynch
Kerry is an invaluable volunteer at Lochee Boys & Girls Club. Kerry’s official role is club treasurer however she has committed hundreds of hours supporting a range of aspects in the club’s development. This year Kerry has driven forward the club’s ambition to build an extension on to their premises to facilitate the ever-increasing demand. Kerry has also been instrumental in the club playing a key role within the Community Sport Hub of the Lochee Area and in local schools, arranging coaches to deliver in schools and hub initiatives.
Paul Gibson
Paul, in his dual role on the board of Dundee West Community Trust and Dundee North West Community Sports Club, has been the driving force behind a new 3G pitch being opened at Charlotte Street. The opening of the facility this year has brought a long-term dream to reality and Paul’s outstanding commitment and hard work has been central to this. Paul has been instrumental in overcoming numerous challenges to successfully open the 3G facility which now houses over 1500 members per week ranging from children as young as two to walking footballers aged 75 years. In addition to his efforts with facility projects, Paul oversees 900 members, 180 club volunteers and 5 full time members of staff as well as being the football club’s treasurer and overseeing social media.

Michael Lyall
Michael is a volunteer coach at Dundee Madsons Basketball Club. He has played an integral role in developing the female section of the club. He is now the head coach for the U12’S, U14’S, U16/18’S and the senior women, with responsibility for developing players in 4 age groups. In addition to weekly coaching sessions Michael spends many hours at matches or tournaments and coordinating team affairs. A highlight for Michael this year was his senior women's team reaching the Scottish Cup final, a team that 3 years ago would struggle to field a team are now going from strength to strength due to Michael's contributions.
Pat Campbell
Pat has played a crucial role in developing the sport of pickleball. Pat plays an instrumental role both on the committee and as a coach for In A Pickle Dundee. Pat undertakes a huge amount of work behind the scenes which has ensured the development of the sport including coaching, writing club policies, dealing with club enquiries and liaising with Pickleball Scotland. Pat is also a Pickleball Ambassador, introducing the game to beginners and has played a crucial role in growing the game in Dundee. Pat has demonstrated her skills as a strong leader with a great passion for pickleball.
Rob Prudom
Rob has been a part of Panmure Rugby Club since 2003, undertaking multiple key roles during his time at the club. Currently he oversees the club’s junior section, Panmure Panthers. Rob’s dedication to the club is amazing, in addition to club sessions he has created weekly clubs for all the Grove cluster schools and also supports Grove Academy pupils at games and tournaments. Rob also commits his time to ensure rugby is part of Forthill Community Sports Hub initiatives. Rob’s dedication was recognised this year when he was presented with a national award for Scottish grassroots rugby club volunteer.
Ryan Alexander
Ryan has demonstrated huge commitment to the development and success of Tayside Dynamos Powerchair Football Club this year. Dedicating over 15 hours a week to coaching, game analysis and player development. A highlight for Ryan was leading the Dynamos to victory in the Scottish League Cup. In addition to his club responsibilities, Ryan has also taken on the role of Head Coach of the Scottish National Powerchair Squad. Ryan demonstrated his commitment to further developing this year by successfully achieving his SFA C licence qualification.

Fabian Haut
Fabian has been a fantastic volunteer for tennis and pickleball in Dundee for 25 years. Firstly, Fabian volunteered in numerous roles at West End Tennis including running teams, maintenance, committee member and club development officer. In his role with West End Tennis, he also represented the club as part of the West End Community Sports Hub where he was excellent liaising with other sports and being active at hub events. In recent times, Fabian has become a pickleball ambassador and coach with the Dundee Deuces, a new LGBTQIA+ club in Dundee.
Harry Byers
Harry started playing hockey in 1974 at the age of 14 and has been the heartbeat of Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club. As one of the founding trustees Hary helped shape the club’s purpose to advance participation in hockey. In a voluntary capacity, Harry currently leads youth hockey development for Grove Menzieshill, organising youth training and holiday camps. In addition to club commitments, this year Harry has dedicated 7 hours a week to delivering in schools, in addition to mentoring Grove Academy pupils. His positive attitude and passion for hockey has seen an increase in participation in youth hockey at Grove Menzieshill.
Irene Morrison
Irene has demonstrated outstanding commitment to Forthill Squash Club undertaking multiple roles including coach, event organiser, team captain, hub representative, child protection officer, membership secretary and treasurer. Irene has also organised events for Forthill Squash Club, fundraising for equipment and trophies. As well as representing the club at meetings, Irene also volunteers to ensure the squash club are part of Forthill Community Sport Hub initiatives. Irene is a team player within the squash club who demonstrates fantastic enthusiasm and passion to encourage others to get involved.
Roy O’Kane
Roy is the Chief Officer of Kanzen for Life. He has been instrumental in the organisation’s growth, with Kanzen now engaging with over 2,000 every week. Roy’s leadership has been key to Kanzen to becoming a leading community organisation in Dundee. Under Roy’s leadership, Kanzen delivers a diverse range of programmes, values driven school initiatives and active lifestyle projects. His passion for health and wellbeing extends beyond Kanzen with Roy serving on the board of 3 charities, the Dundee Sports Dinner and WUKF World Karate.

Ballumbie Primary School
Ballumbie Primary School has provided a range of sporting opportunities for their pupils over the past year, offering 21 sports clubs. The school has made great efforts to raise engagement, attendance and confidence of their pupils through sport. This is demonstrated through their targeted work with over 160 new pupils taking part in sport. This year there has been a 27% increase in the school roll participating in sports clubs, with an overall total of 85%. The school's commitment to school sport was recognised when it was awarded the Gold School Sport Award in October.
Clepington Primary School
Clepington Primary School has continued to develop sporting opportunities ensuring that every child has the opportunity to engage in sport. The school runs several ASN clubs, as traditionally these are the children that have faced barriers when it comes to accessing sport and physical activity. Clepington boasts a student led sports committee that organises events and aims for 100% student participation in extracurricular sports. Clepington has achieved great sporting success, built strong community partnerships and has developed greatly through the help of its dedicated volunteers. This year the school achieved the Gold School Sport Award for the 3rd year running.
Eastern Primary School
Over the past year Eastern Primary School has demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting sports, physical activity and healthy lifestyles to their pupils. The school has excellent links with local sports clubs including Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club and Panmure Panthers Rugby Club in order to maximise the sporting opportunities offered to their pupils. The school has increased clubs for P1-3 to ensure that sport becomes part of their daily life, with 65% of the P1 roll taking part in lunchtime activity.
Glebelands Primary School
Sport has been a key focus for Glebelands Primary School this year, with a priority being providing more opportunities to a wider range of pupils. Glebelands have created a school sport committee incorporating the views of not only pupils and teachers but also Ancrum Outdoor Centre staff and Active Schools Co-ordinators, this has led to a significant increase in the offering of sport in the school to pupils of all ages. A key aspect to this has been the increase in volunteers with pupils leading clubs and an increase in teachers volunteering to run clubs and attending sport related CLPL.
Longhaugh Primary School
Longhaugh Primary School has demonstrated a whole school commitment to sport, with many staff volunteering to run sports clubs and pupils actively contributing to the expansion of sporting opportunities. This is reflected through the P6 leadership project in which pupils delivered a series of fun games and events for the P1 classes in the school. This year the school has also strengthened its pupil council who input into decision making. The progress of Longhaugh was rewarded when the school achieved the Gold School Sport Award in October.

Baldragon Academy
Baldragon’s commitment to sport saw them achieve the Gold School Sport Award this year. Swimming is a key sport for Baldragon who provide swimming for all P7’s in the cluster alongside their ESA swim programme. This has allowed children who have never been in a pool the opportunity to get in the water for the first time. Baldragon have offered forty-three different opportunities this year with pickleball, darts and a targeted additional support needs programme being added this year. This year also saw the school’s first ever Scottish Cup success in football.
Braeview Academy
Braeview sport has had a great year with the school achieving the Gold School Sport Award. The school have a fantastic 46% of the school roll participating in an extra-curricular club, including 35% of female pupils. Braeview also have a thriving additional support needs programme with a year-round programme delivered for ESA classes. Through Braeview’s Cashback School of Rugby record numbers of pupils have transitioned to Dundee Rugby Club and six S3-4 pupils have been supported through their rugby coaching qualification to assist the school of rugby. On the competition side, Braeview’s S2 netball team qualified for the knockout stages of the Scottish Cup for the first time ever this year.
Grove Academy
Grove has again been successful in achieving the Gold School Sport Award this year. The school has hard working staff and volunteers who commit their time to delivering a range of sports for pupils. The school also has excellent links with local community clubs and has created a strong pathway between school and community sport. Grove has had over 200 pupils represent the school at local, regional, and national events, including the girls senior football team making it to the 2024/2025 Scottish Shield semi-final and the S1 & Open Netball teams reaching the National Plate Quarter Finals last year.
Harris Academy
Harris Academy has worked to provide over 40 extra-curricular sports clubs this year as well as working with the feeder primary schools to create sports opportunities for all. Many pupils have represented the school, Dundee and Great Britian in a wide range of competitions including football, cheerleading, ice hockey, and water polo. Harris Academy has been working to grow female participation in extra-curricular clubs and in 2024, 49% of attendees were girls.

Dundee Road Runners
This year Dundee Road Runners celebrated its 40th anniversary. Over the past year the club has developed its coaching capacity by supporting more members to become coaches and this was reflected in improved results. One example of this is 14 members ran a sub 3-hour marathon compared to just five the previous year. The Road Runners are committed to organising events for the running community including the annual Templeton 10 which in 2024 attracted nearly 150 runners from across Scotland. Club volunteers also form the backbone of the 20+ volunteers needed to stage the weekly park run at Camperdown.
Kanzen for Life
Kanzen has once again excelled over the past year, achieving remarkable sporting success while simultaneously making significant contributions to the community. Over the past year, Kanzen for Life significantly expanded its community impact, reaching over 2,000 individuals weekly through diverse initiatives extending beyond martial arts. On the competition side of things, Kanzen competed in 12 international events netting British, European and World Champions, with a total of 452 medal placings.
Tayside Jets Netball Club
In its inaugural season, Tayside Jets Junior Netball Club made history as Dundee's first junior netball club, establishing a thriving and inspiring environment for young players. The club entered multiple competitions across Scotland, providing crucial game experience for various age groups. The club has also successfully recruited volunteers and supported coach development, ensuring a strong foundation for future growth.
University of Dundee Triathlon Club
The University of Dundee Triathlon Club have developed several new initiatives in the past year which have significantly contributed to the development of the club. This includes the introduction of pre semester training to cater for students still in Dundee over the summer, a winter residential training weekend and weekly cycling skills and bike handling session. A key part of the club’s development has been putting 6 members through triathlon coaching qualifications which tripled the number of student coaches in one year. This year has seen a fantastic 23% increase in club membership.

Cameron Millar
Cameron is a dedicated member of Dundee Boccia Club, as well as participating in swimming and cycling. Alongside Jenna, Cameron competed in the Scottish Students College boccia competition in Stirling and after the final went to a tie breaker, Cameron and Jenna prevailed to become Scottish Student champions. Cameron is extremely dedicated to each sport he is involved in and has recently started volunteering to help coaches at weekly adapted cycling sessions he attends with Active Dundee.
Elise Coubrough
Elise has had a fantastic year in wheelchair badminton winning two gold medals at the Scottish National Disability Championships in the women’s singles and mixed doubles. Elise is part of the national athlete pathway and now trains regularly with the best wheelchair athletes and coaches in the country. Elise is also an outstanding role model and now works with a small group of young people supporting their development as wheelchair badminton players. Elise’s determination is inspiring as she balances pursuing a medical degree while also training as a national athlete.
Jenna Richardson
Jenna and her partner Cameron played as a pair in the Scottish Student Sports Boccia Competition. They faced a challenging match in the final and were successful after a tense tie breaker. Jenna’s hard work and dedication paid off as they became the Scottish Student Champions, taking home the gold medal.
Nathan Wilkie
Nathan has had an exceptional year in powerchair football. Due to his impressive performances at Championship level, in 2024 Nathan was selected to play powerchair football at the highest level in Scotland for Tayside Dynamos in the premiership. In his first season he became the league's top goal scorer and in September 2024 his team won the Scottish League Cup, with Nathan contributing hugely to this success. Nathan’s progress has seen him selected to train with the Scotland Powerchair Football Squad as part of the emerging talent pathway and is on the brink of international selection. Nathan continuously exemplifies resilience and determination.
Taylor MacKenzie
Last year Taylor secured multiple gold medals at local, regional, and national championships. In 2024, Taylor excelled at the Scottish Disability Sport National Senior Championships, where she won five gold medals and was recognised as top female performer. Taylor also repeated this feat at the junior championships in November.
Young Sports Person of the Year

Daisy Hutchison
Over the past year, Daisy has excelled in football. After excelling playing for Dryburgh in the Women’s Championship Daisy now plays for Dundee United Women’s in the SWPL1. She was selected for Boys & Girls Clubs of Scotland Girls U17 squad for an international v Wales and starred as Scotland won 8-1. Daisy is also a fantastic role model for younger girls, helping with the S1/2 girls football team at St Pauls.
Finn Donnelly
Over the past year, Finn has demonstrated exceptional dedication to karate, training six times a week and achieving significant competitive success. His achievements include winning gold at the Scottish Open in June and another gold at the AMA International Open in Sheffield in March. Finn also competed at the GB Open in Birmingham and travelled to Warsaw to represent Scotland.
Finn Mulhern
Finn Mulhern is a member Skyaxe Kickboxing Club in Dundee. Finn has achieved remarkable success in international competitions. He earned five gold medals, one silver, and two bronze at the WKO Arnold’s in Barnsley in March 2024. In August 2024, at the WKO World Championships, also held in Barnsley, Finn secured five gold medals and one bronze, becoming a five-time World Champion.
Jenna Dailly
Jenna is a young boxer with Lochee Boxing Club and also a member of Saltire Karate club. In boxing Jenna became Scottish Champion and is the current GB schoolgirls Tri Nations Bronze medallist. Jenna is part of the Boxing Scotland future generation programme and travels weekly to Glasgow to train with the Scotland squad. In karate, representing Saltire Karate Club Jenna secured several medals including becoming double European Champion.

Adam Hall
Adam Hall has been a key member of the University of Dundee Ski Team. Adam is on track to win the Scottish Alpine Student Championships for the 2nd time. Adam also achieved a fantastic 1st place at the FIS Para Giant Slalom Skiing which secured qualification for the Paralympics. Among multiple highlights for Adam this year include captaining the British University Ski Club to success at the Anglo-Swiss Championships for Giant Slalom Skiing.
Anastasia Vaipan Law and Luke Digby
Anastasia and Luke are world class athletes from Dundee Ice Skating Club. In the past year Anastasia and Luke won their 4th consecutive British Title with a career best score. An outstanding performance in the European figure skating Championships secured a brilliant 5th place, the best British result since 1989. The pair had another outstanding showing at the World Championships with a 12th place finish. Anastasia and Luke also participated in the Grand Prix, invitation only events to which only the best skaters in the world are invited. In their two Grand Prix events they finished in a fantastic 6th place.
Cerys Hawe
In the past year, Cerys became both WUKF World and European Champion in Kumite while competing in various national and international events, all whilst balancing her training, coaching, college and work commitments. On top of this Cerys became Scottish Champion, African Open Champion and became the first person ever to win the WUKF European Tour ranking event for the 3rd year in a row. To aid her development as an athlete Cerys have been working with the Abertay University Sport Science team as part of training and research into effects of high intensity interval training on athletes.
Elaine Shemilt
Elaine, a member of Dundee Road Runners, achieved remarkable success at the age of 70 by winning individual silver and team gold at the World Masters Mountain Running Championships in Carnac, Spain. The 17 kilometre off road course included climbing 2,162 metres in the Pyrenees. Elaine demonstrated phenomenal grit, determination and physical and mental strength. Elaine also raised over £1,800 in sponsorship for the South Georgia Trust.

Baldragon Academy
Baldragon Academy recognised many primary school pupils in their cluster could not swim. As a result, Baldragon launched a swimming programme for all primary seven’s in their cluster primary schools. This programme provided vital swimming lessons and water safety skills to primary pupils, addressing the concerning statistic that over 50% of the incoming cohort to Baldragon could not swim.
Dundee City Aquatics
Over the past year, Dundee City Aquatics continued to deliver its weekly Learn to Swim programme for children with a disability. The club has now supported over 60 children, and the programme has had a significant positive impact on participants. Notably, in the last year, a number of the swimmers have successfully transitioned to mainstream training sessions in the club. Last year, twelve of the swimmers took part in regional and national galas, winning a number of medals.
Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club
Dundee Dragons adaptive cycling programme has expanded to now offering 9 hours across 4 locations. The programme has an outstanding impact on individuals physical & mental health with cycling supporting many participants with disabilities, overcome daily challenges they face. One of the highlights the year was the club organised Ride Free event where cyclists with a range of disabilities competed in a range of time trials. A brilliant example of the power of adaptive cycling was enabling young people with disabilities to complete their bike ability skills activity through the club providing adaptive cycles for young people unable to ride a standard bike. This ensured that where the young people may have been excluded from this activity previously, they could now be fully included.
Eastern Primary School
In its most successful year to date, the ASN Swimming Project for P1 pupils at Eastern Primary School provided vital, tailored swimming sessions for children with complex needs and their parents. The six-week block of water babies-style activities resulted in significant gains in water confidence for the non-verbal P1 pupils. A key focus this year was empowering parents, which proved highly successful as they gained the confidence to take their children swimming outside of school. By creating this specifically inclusive environment, the project directly addressed the ongoing lack of suitable sporting opportunities for these families.

Dundee Schools Music Theatre
Dundee Schools Music Theatre is a vibrant, inclusive company that provides young people from Dundee City Council, High School of Dundee, Angus Council and North East Fife secondary schools with the opportunity to engage in musical theatre—entirely free of charge. Since its inception in 1999, Dundee Schools Music Theatre has positively impacted the lives of over 6,000 young people, fostering creativity and collaboration through workshops and live performances.
This year, Dundee Schools Music Theatre proudly presents Seussical the Musical, an enchanting production filled with whit and wonder. The show will run at the Gardyne Theatre from 4th to 7th June 2025, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of these young performers.
Kaleem Barreto
Kaleem is a proud Dundonian and currently captain of the men's GB rugby 7’s squad. Kaleem is determined to be a positive role model and help others learn from his experience. Kaleem started playing rugby in Dundee at 9 years old, but was also a talented cricketer, following in his grandfather's footsteps. He made a choice to continue with rugby and has played for Glasgow Warriors and Boroughmuir Bears, as well as representing Scotland at age group level and 7’s. Kaleem was part of the last Scotland 7’s squad that played in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Kaleem was recognised for his achievements recently at the Scottish Muslim Awards.
Kaleem is a bundle of positive energy, respected by his peers and willing to challenge himself. He's delighted to be 'home'!
