Active Dundee recently hosted its annual football festival for young people with a disability or additional support needs at Greenfield Academy.
Delivered in partnership with the school, the event welcomed 48 pupils from across Tayside to take part in a series of adapted football sessions designed to meet a wide range of abilities. Schools included Kingspark, St John's and Greenfield from Dundee and Bertha Park and Murthly P.S. from Perth.
Activities were carefully structured to ensure an inclusive and supportive environment. Smaller group sizes allowed participants more time on the ball, while helping to reduce pressure and create a positive experience for everyone involved.
Sessions were led by sports students from Dundee and Angus College, whose support played a key role in helping pupils build confidence, develop skills and most importantly, enjoy the game.
Darren Thomson, Disability Sports Development Officer at Active Dundee, said
“It was fantastic to see so many young people enjoying football in a supportive and inclusive environment. Events like this allow pupils to express themselves, build confidence and take part without pressure.
“We were also encouraged to see some players keen to take their football further, and we have already started exploring opportunities to develop inter-school competitions.”
The festival forms part of Active Dundee’s wider commitment to increasing opportunities for people with a disability or ASN to take part in sport and physical activity.
