Active Dundee is proud to highlight the exceptional commitment of its team members and the vital role Douglas Sports Centre plays in supporting community wellbeing. This year’s annual Christmas Party, held on Saturday 13 December for participants of the stroke recovery programmes, once again demonstrated the centre’s dedication to inclusion, care and community spirit.

The festive celebration was thoughtfully designed around three core aims: recognising the remarkable achievements of individuals on their recovery journey, encouraging social connection among participants and their families and enhancing emotional wellbeing through a joyful, shared experience.

Fully funded through year-round fundraising by staff, centre users and external supporters, the event was accessible to all, ensuring no financial barrier for participants or their families. This collaborative approach reflects the strong community ethos at the heart of Douglas Sports Centre.

The celebration welcomed 88 attendees, including 67 stroke recovery participants, along with family members and volunteers. Guests enjoyed seasonal entertainment from an on‑site DJ, light refreshments prepared by staff and interactive games tailored to participants’ needs.

Attendees spoke of the sense of belonging the event fostered and the importance of social engagement in supporting recovery. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

Margaret Mitchell of the Dundee Stroke Exercise Club (DSEC) shared her appreciation, saying
