As we approach the end of 2025, Active Dundee is reflecting on a year of collaboration and celebration through its involvement in the Dundee Activity Network. This year has demonstrated the power of partnership working, with two standout events: Going for Gold at Menzieshill Community Hub and a Christmas Event at Douglas Sports Centre, showcasing our commitment to activity, creativity and community spirit.
The Dundee Activity Network, led by Carole Brunton - the Independent Sector Lead at Scottish Care, has been central to these successes, enabling Active Dundee’s physical activity team to work hand in hand with community partners. We would particularly like to thank Carole for being the driving force behind the network and its events.
Held at Menzieshill Community Hub to coincide with International Older People’s Day, the sixth annual Going for Gold was a vibrant celebration of Dundee’s older residents. 18 Care Homes and Day Care Centres, 53 participants and 43 support staff poured their energy into handmade flags, badges, and costumes, while team competitions brought out a friendly competitive streak. The event’s success was recognised city-wide, with coverage on STV News for the second year running.
Active Dundee’s Physical Activity team supported all activities, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in delivering meaningful experiences for older people. The facility team at Menzieshill Community Hub played a vital role in supporting and hosting the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly and participants felt welcome.
This month, Douglas Sports Centre was transformed into a festive hub for the annual Christmas Event. Stephen Crumlish Discos provided entertainment and the Grinch made his traditional appearance to get everyone in the festive mood.
Competitions added sparkle to the afternoon and the Douglas Sports Centre facility team provided invaluable input, engagement, and support, helping to create a welcoming environment and ensuring the event was a success.
These events highlight the strength of partnerships working across Dundee. The positives from these collaborations are clear: enhanced community engagement, strengthened reputation and a boost to a city that values activity and inclusion.
Looking back over 2025, we are proud of the role we’ve played in supporting events that bring people together, celebrate individuality and promote active living. Going for Gold and the Christmas Event are shining examples of what can be achieved when our physical activity and facility teams, work hand in hand with the Dundee Activity Network.
Active Dundee remains committed to building on this success in 2026, expanding inclusive programmes, strengthening partnerships and continuing to showcase Dundee’s vibrant active culture.
